Times were tough and her father, Dominick Nave, wanted to find her a husband. He knew a good man, Alessandro Melchiorre, who lived 209 Woodland Avenue in Morton as a boarder. When Andrew met Virginia, he fell in love with her immediately. They married at Holy Saviour Church in Norristown on May 30, 1920 and the witnesses to the wedding were Carmella Nave and Andrew DeSantis. Alessandro was able to re-purchase Virginia's old home at 319 E. Penn Street and lived there until they moved to Folsom sometime around 1925. Their first child was was Catherine Nygard, followed by Helen Jackson and Salvatore Melchiorre. DeSantis Andy DeSantis was very friendly with Andrew Melchiorre and actually was a roomate of his in 1920. He later became a boarder and then married Virginia. She had Esther DeSantis Jacobson, June DeSantis Fooks and Virginia DeSantis O'Donnell. Andy and Virginia lived in a beautiful white house, immaculately clean, with gorgeous flowers, grapes, and a well manicured lawn. Their hardwood floors in the home gleamed. At Christmas, the house was decorated with blue lights. They had collie dogs, all named Ginger (or as Grandpop said "Chinger." There was a grape arbor in the back yard and the gardening was always impeccable. They used to have parties on the back patio with June, Esther, and Ginny, with lots of fun and laughs. Virginia always made bow tie Christmas cookies. The DeSantis girls were out of their minds. They were all very funny and would do anything for a laugh. We are in the process of gathering more information about Viriginia. |
